Destination in detail
Nestled in a fish hook shaped peninsula, the coastal town of Alesund extends over several small islands out onto the Atlantic Ocean and is surrounded by majestic fjords and the snow capped summits of the Sunmore Alps. Often regarded as one of Norway's most beautiful ports, it is elegantly dressed in Art Nouveau architecture with pretty pastel coloured buildings reflected in the coastal waters. With its rich cultural heritage, wealth of restaurants and bars, and numerous events, Alesund is a cultural centre of the region. Beyond this, the spectacular nature provides endless opportunities for outdoors adventures including alpine skiing, fishing and hiking, not to mention adventures into the jewel of the region - the mighty Geirangerfjord. Alesund is a year round destination and an unmissable stop on your Nordic adventure.
