Climbing Korouoma Gorge
Korouoma is a beautifully rugged destination in Southern Lapland. This long crack of bedrock is host to some spectacular waterfalls which open up the opportunities to some great ice climbing in the winter. You are met in the morning at your accommodation by the guide who has all the climbing equipment ready and prepared for you, all you need to bring with you is proper winter clothing, some energising snacks and a sense of adventure!
You will then drive to Korouoma Gorge in Posio, where the mightiest ice falls in Finland are located – some up to 60 meters tall! Hike down to the canyon and set up at the waterfall. The guide gives you safety instructions for the area, before you get yourself kitted out in crampons and with ice axes. The guide belays (secures) the climber with a top rope, gives last minute tips and encouragement, and off you go!
After the climbing, it is time to relax together by the warmth of the fire and listen to stories about ice climbing, arctic nature and Lapland life. Enjoy a picnic around the campfire.
