Summer Polar Expedition
Day 1
Arrival into Oslo
Arrive into Oslo airport and take your transfer to the city centre to check in to your hotel. Spend the afternoon at leisure; you could go shopping or take a guided tour of the highlights of the city. This evening, choose one of the many restaurants to enjoy for dinner.
Day 2
Head north
Check out this morning and head to the airport to take your flight north to Svalbard. Arrive into Longyearbyen and take your transfer to the amazing Funken Lodge hotel at the top of the town overlooking the fjord below. Spend your evening at leisure to enjoy a selection of delicious sharing dishes in the restaurant.
Day 3
Speedboat Adventure
After a delicious breakfast head out today on an amazing speedboat cruise using the brand new Kvitbjørn boat to Ny Alesund; the northernmost settlement in the world. The site was originally established for coal mining, which was the main activity here until 1962. A major accident in the mine led the coal mining operations to shut down. Since then, Ny Ålesund has developed into a scientific research base and holds a state-of-the-art research centre in the High Arctic. As well as visiting this incredible and unique place, as you sail through the fjords you will have a great opportunity to keep your eyes peeled for the local wildlife – including the mysterious polar bear. Your guides are well practised at spotting them so they will let you know if they see any! Otherwise you may get to see seals, puffins and walruses on your way! This evening relax and enjoy the Midnight Sun and amazing views across Longyearbyen.
Day 4
Dog Sledding
Today, you will enjoy one of the Arctic’s most famous activities; but this time in the Summer – Dog sledding! In the summertime it is using wheeled carts instead of sleds through the snow but the dogs still love the excitement of pulling you around the trails surrounding Longyearbyen. For your final evening this evening you can enjoy a beautiful and relaxing kayaking trip under the Midnight Sun.
Day 5
What's next?
Final day at leisure to relax and enjoy Longyearbyen before taking your transfer back to the airport to continue your journey.
