This exclusive 11-night itinerary is an incredible opportunity to experience 3 of the North Atlantic’s most impressive locations; Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Greenland with a comfort stopover either side of your trip in the bustling city of Copenhagen. This breathtaking tour of amazing scenery, exciting activities and unique experiences will be sure to make you fall in love with this part of the world. During this trip you will travel the same trail as the Vikings on their discovery from the Faroe Islands to Iceland and on to Greenland.

Trail of the Vikings
Day 1
Copenhagen
Arrive into Copenhagen and make your way to your centrally located hotel to check in. Depending on your arrival time you can spend the afternoon exploring the city before heading out for a delicious dinner in one of the many amazing restaurants on offer. Don’t forget that your Adventure Artist can help you with any recommendations or reservations too!
Day 2
The Faroe Islands
This morning return to the airport for your flight from Copenhagen to the Faroe Islands. Take your private airport transfer from Vágar Airport to Sørvágur marina for the transfer to Mykines.You will arrive in Mykines late afternoon with the boat Jósup. Your local guesthouse hostess and guide will meet you by the boat and take you to the guesthouse.
Here you will enjoy dinner in an old house dated 1895, one of the oldest houses in the village of Mykines. After dinner, take coffee and sweets with you and go on an evening hiking tour to meet and greet the puffins and the gannets and see the sunset!
Day 3
Vágar Island
In the morning after breakfast you will take a stroll trough the village and down to the ocean for one more tour to see puffins and birds on the edge before you sail back to Sørvágur with the morning ferry. After arrival to Sørvágur from Mykines you will explore the beautiful island of Vágar!
The tour includes the villages of Bøur and Gásadalur, where there is a magnificent view of Holmen Tindhólmur with the island of Mykines in the background and in Gásadalur, there is time to explore the famous Múlafossur waterfall.
Head to Tórshavn along the old Mountain Road with plenty of photo stops along the way. Check into your hotel this evening and relax for dinner at Áarstova – undoubtedly one of the best restaurants in the Faroe Islands.
Day 4
Northern Stremoy & Eysturoy
Experience some of the best of the Faroe Islands on the northern part of Streymoy island and Eysturoy island. Saksun is outstanding with the tidal lagoon surrounded by sand, mountains and stunning waterfalls. You will also get the chance to see the old iconic turfed church overlooking the lagoon. The tour continues to Eysturoy and the village Gjógv before enjoying a delicious lunch platter and pancakes with warm beverages at a local guesthouse.
Tonight you will dine with a local family. The Faroese phrase “heimablídni” translates directly as “home hospitality”, and all across the islands you can enjoy authentic and intimate dining experiences in people’s homes. In addition to being served traditional homemade Faroese food, you will also hear interesting stories that relate to that particular part of the country or village. An amazing way to end your stay in the Faroe Islands!
Day 5
On to Iceland
Check out this morning and take your private transfer back to the airport for your flight to Iceland.
On arrival into Keflavik you will meet your private transfer and head to Reykjavik to enjoy a guided tour of the city. Experience some of the highlights such as the Harpa Congress & Event Hall, the old harbour area, Hallgrímskirkja church, Höfði house and many more. Afterwards, travel to Geysir and Thingvellir national park. Besides being a natural wonder, Thingvellir is also a site of geological wonders, as it lies in a rift valley that marks the crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. You can clearly see the rift and how the movement of the tectonic plates pulls the island apart, approximately 2,5 cm every year.
Day 6
Valley of Thor
Your driver-guide will pick you up in a fully modified Super Jeep, which is essential for today’s tour to Thorsmork, the lushly vegetated mountain valley named after Thor, the Viking God of Thunder. We have put together the perfect itinerary for visiting this stunning gem, allowing the nature lover in you to escape the city and take a perfect trip.
Visit so many incredible areas today; the 60-meter high Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, Gígjokull Glacier – the outlet of Eyjafjallajökull volcano, Stakkholtsgjá canyon which was used to film Game of Thrones in season 7, Thorsmork – the scenic valley of Thor nestled between 3 glaciers where you can enjoy lunch and some short hikes and finally the Nauthúsagil ravine; a true gem of Iceland’s South coast.
Once finished head towards the Blue Lagoon and check in to the Retreat Hotel & Spa for an evening of relaxing and delicious food.
Day 7
Volcanic Iceland
After breakfast, your driver-guide will pick you up from your accommodation in the morning.
Reykjanes Peninsula is a UNESCO Global Geopark – a cultural, geographical, and historical treasure trove where the Mid-Atlantic Ridge rises above sea level. On the peninsula you will see Garðskagaviti lighthouse, Brimketill lava rock pool, The Bridge Between Continents, Gunnuhver and much more. You will also enjoy a trip to the Viking World Museum where you can learn all about the Vikings, their pastimes and their work.
An impressive end to this day tour is a visit to the dormant Þríhnúkagígur volcano to head inside it! After a 45-minute hike to the crater you will then descend in an open cable lift to the bottom! An incredible way to explore an out of this world experience on your final day in Iceland!
Day 8
Southern Greenland
Check out this morning and take your private transfer back to the airport for your onward flight to Greenland.
Your stay in Greenland starts as it means to go on with an impressive helicopter transfer to the hot springs of Uunartoq. Set on a small pristine island, the hot springs are positioned about a kilometers walk from the sea edge. The Vikings and elders of Greenland found this secret gem many years ago, using it as a health spa. Stories are told of how people with health problems would spend a week at the hot springs to be healed.
Afterwards you will take your boat transfer from Narsarsuaq to Itilleq to experience a hike along the ‘Kings Road’ before checking into your cosy wooden cabin. Once settled you will head out one more time with your guide to the Gardar Cathedral Ruins; a UNESCO world heritage site with important ties to the Viking farming culture and present-day Inuit traditions.
Day 9
Kayaking Adventure
This morning, after breakfast, you will take a boat transfer from Itilleq to Qassiarsuk. One thousand years ago a group of Vikings, with Eric the Red in the front, sailed into the bay where the settlement Qassiarsuk is located today and was the Vikings stronghold. It was here they built the first Christian church on the North American continent. Today a statue of Leif Ericsson (Eric the Red’s son) has been erected on a prominent vantage point in Qassiarsuk.
Enjoy a delicious lunch prepared for you by local farmers before heading out onto the water in the sheltered bay of Tasiusaq for a kayaking adventure before heading back to Itilleq for your dinner and overnight.
Day 10
Viking Church
Check out of your cabin this morning before heading to the Hvalsey Church ruin. Hvalsey Church ruin is located in the inner part of Hvalsey Fjord, on a lush green meadow. According to the sagas, it was Eric the Red’s cousin Thorkell Farserk who took possession of the land at Hvalsey. Thorkell was one of the men who came with Eric to Greenland in the year 985. Head to Qaqortoq to check into your final hotel of your time in Southern Greenland and spend the evening at leisure exploring this bustling town.
Day 11
Back to Copenhagen
Check out this morning and head back to Narsarsuaq Airport for your flight to Copenhagen.
Make your way to your hotel and check in before spending one final evening reflecting on an incredible trip through the North Atlantic!
